MOSCOW, January 3 - RIA Novosti. The alteration of weapons on the territory of Russia will be banned in 2022, the corresponding amendments to the federal law "On Weapons" will come into force on June 29, 2022.

Previously, the alteration of weapons was not prohibited by law, as well as there was no such term in the regulatory documents. Amendments to the legislation introduce it.

"Alteration of weapons - replacement or modification of the shape and (or) dimensions of the main parts of firearms or parts of the firing and firing mechanisms of weapons, replacement or modification of parts of decommissioned weapons, pneumatic weapons, signal weapons, gas weapons or throwing small arms, which entailed a change in the technical characteristics of weapons taken into account when certifying weapons (mandatory confirmation of conformity), destruction or change of marking designations, numbers and (or) brands of weapons," the document says.

The same document introducing this term prohibits the alteration of weapons.

Vyacheslav Vaneev, Deputy head of the Right to Arms organization, commented on the changes for RIA Novosti. He expressed concern that the changes could negatively affect the civilian weapons market. "This very (prohibition of alterations - ed.) actually kills the entire business accompanying the weapons. The so-called "tuning". Service, weapon service. We have always said that these amendments simply kill the weapons infrastructure," he said.

In addition, Vaneev noted that the changes do not fully specify what will be understood by the alteration, so they need to be finalized.

Retired FSB Major General Alexander Mikhailov expressed his opinion on the changes to RIA Novosti. According to him, today there is a large number of "modified" weapons in illegal sale, which, according to the law, does not fall under the term "weapons".

"Today we have a large number of various kinds of such items for illegal sale, similar to weapons, but not falling under this gradation, and which can easily turn into military weapons," he said. Mikhailov specified that we are talking about gas and traumatic pistols.
