Anti-aircraft units of the 4th Army of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Southern Military District were the first in Russia to receive the modern S-350 Vityaz missile system. New anti-aircraft missile systems have already entered combat duty.
As the commander of the army, Lieutenant General Nikolai Gostev, told the newspaper "Military Bulletin of the South of Russia", the rearmament of one of the anti-aircraft missile regiments of the Southern Military District with the latest air defense system will allow several times to increase the effectiveness of repelling enemy air strikes.
Unlike the S-300V4, S-400 and S-500 long-range systems designed to engage strategic and tactical aircraft at a great distance, the new Vityaz system is more functional.
"The S-350 is a more flexible system that has the ability to defeat not only the previously named types of aircraft, but also cruise missiles, which our likely opponents have been focusing on lately, and unmanned aerial vehicles in the middle and near zone over the entire altitude range," Nikolai Gostev said.
In combination with long-range and short-range anti-aircraft systems, the S-350 Vityaz allows you to create an insurmountable echeloned air defense system.
The features of the "Vityaz" are the increased performance of firing. The technical capabilities of the radars and the control machine allow 16 targets to be fired at the same time, aiming two missiles at each.
The S-350 Vityaz can also operate in automatic mode when the computer chooses the method of hitting targets by itself.
