MOSCOW, Dec 30 - RIA Novosti. Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law on the provision of support measures and benefits to citizens participating on a voluntary basis in the protection of the state border of the Russian Federation.
The relevant document is published on the official Internet portal of legal information.
The law establishes the possibility to apply to these citizens the measures of support, financial incentives, benefits and compensations applicable to people's vigilantes and freelance police officers provided for by the federal law "On the Participation of Citizens in the protection of public Order".
The authors of the bill noted that almost 13 thousand citizens participate in border protection as part of more than 1.2 thousand voluntary people's squads.
The law also specifies the rights of state authorities of the subjects of the Russian Federation and local self-government bodies in this area. The law will make it possible to adjust the current law enforcement practice, will help attract and support citizens participating on a voluntary basis in the protection of the state border, which will have a positive impact on ensuring the security of Russia.
