The political recognition of the new government of Afghanistan formed by the Taliban (banned in the Russian Federation) is rather a "symbolic political act" — de facto recognition is already taking place.
This was stated by the special representative of the President of Russia for Afghanistan and director of the second Department of Asia of the Russian Foreign Ministry Zamir Kabulov in an interview with Sputnik, writes Fergana news.
"The Taliban delegation participated in a representative meeting of the Moscow format here with us, had the opportunity to communicate directly with ten countries of the region. There was an emergency session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Islamabad, where the Taliban were also invited <...>. The recognition process is taking place gradually and gradually.
We are not particularly fixated on recognition or non-recognition. We have a full-fledged Russian embassy [in Kabul]. And it is not alone — seven embassies [are working] and three or four more are on the way. De facto recognition is already taking place with such separate small steps," Kabulov said.
At the same time, as the diplomat explained, for the full recognition of the Taliban government, there is a "certain package of requirements" that the new authorities must fulfill.
