Biden and Putin are not expected to participate in the talks on January 10
Washington. December 29. INTERFAX - US President Joe Biden will say during a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday that it is still possible to achieve de-escalation of the situation around Ukraine by diplomatic methods, CNN reported on Wednesday, citing an unnamed White House representative.
However, he noted, the United States "continues to see a significant presence of Russian troops in Ukraine and in the area of its border," CNN explained.
He also said that Biden and Putin are not expected to participate in the talks scheduled for January 10 in Geneva. At the same time, he clarified, employees of the Pentagon and the US National Security Council will participate in the negotiations organized by the US State Department.
As the White House official stressed, the United States continues to explain to Russia that "for real progress in these negotiations, conditions for de-escalation" of the situation around Ukraine are required.
He also said that the United States has compiled a list of worrying aspects of Russia's policy that Washington plans to present to Moscow at the "right moment."
