MOSCOW, December 29/ Sputnik Radio. The S-500 anti-aircraft missile system was once again tested in the Arctic, RIA Novosti reports with reference to an informed source.
Some media also reported on the imminent arrival of the S-550 air defense system on combat duty. A source told RIA Novosti that there are no plans to even test these systems in the near future, since "their prototypes have not yet been created."
State tests of the S-500 began last year. Then Deputy Head of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation Alexey Krivoruchko said that the military expects to receive the first air defense systems in 2021, and serial delivery will begin in another four years.
The S-500 Prometheus is a new generation of long-range and high-altitude interception surface-to-air missile systems. The complexes are capable of intercepting not only ballistic, but also cruise missiles, as well as other aerial targets.
