Russian-Belarusian military exercises will take place in February-March 2022. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin during talks with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko on December 29.
"As you suggested, we will hold them, the military will coordinate them there - in March or in February. I don't know when they will decide," the Russian leader said.
For his part, the President of Belarus asked Putin to continue cooperation in the military industry and in the military-industrial sphere.
"I have appealed to you so that we do not stop our joint exercises, so that we continue to create centers for training our guys — first of all, new models of military equipment that we buy from Russia," Lukashenko said.
In his opinion, the upcoming military exercises of the two countries benefit the relations of the states.
Putin and Lukashenko held talks in St. Petersburg. The leaders talked at the Konstantinovsky Palace in Strelna, discussing topical issues of cooperation between the two states.
After the meeting, the presidents plan to play hockey.
Lukashenko arrived in St. Petersburg the day before to participate in an informal meeting of the leaders of the CIS countries.
On December 22, First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Dmitry Polyansky said that the UN Security Council countries should pay attention to the situation when Russia and Belarus are surrounded by a ring of instability from the west and south.
Also in December, the State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus, Alexander Volfovich, criticized the Ukrainian special operation "Polesie" near the border. He noted that Belarus has the right to conduct exercises in response.
At the end of November, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that Russia is concerned about military exercises, including unplanned ones, at its borders. He recalled that bombers were flying 20 km from the border of the country, on board of which there were precision weapons.
