The US does not want to discuss its allies and partners without their participation
Washington. December 28. INTERFAX - The United States is very much looking forward to discussions with Russia at the strategic stability talks scheduled for January 10, but Washington would not like to discuss its allies without their knowledge, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said on Tuesday.
"We look forward to interacting with Russia at the Strategic Stability Dialogue on January 10. Also, as we understand, in addition, the Russian Federation and NATO intend to hold a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council on January 12, and on January 13 there will be an OSCE meeting according to the schedule," he said during a telephone briefing.
"Of course, we will present our reasons for concern. I think the Russians will do the same, but we adhere to the principle (not to say anything about our allies and partners without our allies and partners," he stressed.
He expressed confidence that during the discussions the parties will have both areas where they will come to an agreement and areas where there will be disagreements.
"But we believe that open-minded dialogue and diplomacy have constructive potential, while we are trying to achieve de-escalation of the conflict in and around Ukraine," he also said.
Price recalled that the US approach to the situation around Ukraine remains consistent - "deterrence and diplomacy" in relation to the Russian Federation, which will face serious consequences in the event of hostile actions against Ukraine.
He added that, apparently, the State Department will publish additional details of the upcoming negotiations between the Russian Federation and the United States in the coming days.
On Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russian-American negotiations on security guarantees will take place immediately after the New Year holidays.
