MOSCOW, December 26/ Sputnik Radio. Russia's response to the further expansion of NATO to the east may be "very different," President Vladimir Putin said on the Rossiya 1 TV channel.
On December 17, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation published draft agreements with NATO and the United States in the field of security. The documents, in particular, exclude the further expansion of the alliance to the east and the entry into it of the countries of the former USSR.
The projects also provide for the rejection of any military activity of the bloc in Ukraine, in other states of Eastern Europe, as well as in Transcaucasia and Central Asia.
The Head of State added that the initiatives of the Russian side addressed to Western partners were proposed not to "stop something", but "to achieve a diplomatic negotiating result."
Earlier, Sputnik radio reported a possible date for the meeting of the Russia-NATO Council.
