Brussels. December 26. INTERFAX - Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance Jens Stoltenberg decided to convene the Russia-NATO Council on January 12, 2022, the DPA news agency reported with reference to the NATO press service.
This meeting may be the first in two and a half years, the DPA notes.
Earlier it was reported that on January 12-13, a meeting of the NATO Military Committee at the level of the chiefs of the General Staffs of the alliance member states will be held in Brussels.
According to media reports, at the meeting, the participants intend to discuss issues related to the situation around Ukraine in connection with reports of the concentration of Russian troops on the Ukrainian border.
Last Friday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova confirmed that Moscow had received an offer from the North Atlantic Alliance to hold a meeting of the Russia-NATO Council in January, the specific dates and format of the meeting will be determined later.
Zakharova denied Western media reports that during the upcoming discussions of the Russian proposal on the development of legal security guarantees, the topic of non-expansion of NATO will not be considered.
