TSAMTO, December 24. The Ministry of Defense of India has announced the successful conduct by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) of the first test launch of the national operational tactical missile (OTR) "Pralay" (Pralay) of the surface-to-ground class.
The launch was carried out on December 22 at about 10:30 local time from the landfill located on the island of Abdul Kalam in the Bay of Bengal off the coast of the United States.Odisha.
As stated, all the tasks have been achieved. The rocket flew along a given quasi-ballistic trajectory and hit the target with a high level of accuracy, confirming the readiness of the control and guidance algorithms.
All subsystems of the rocket functioned satisfactorily. The flight of the OTR along the entire trajectory was tracked using telemetry systems of various types, including those placed on board ships.
It is reported that on December 23, DRDO conducted a re-launch of a rocket equipped with a heavier payload at a different range in order to demonstrate the accuracy and striking ability of the OTR.
According to media reports, the rocket is equipped with a solid-fuel rocket engine and equipment developed using new technologies. The launch range of the OTR is 150-500 km, the payload mass is 500-1000 kg. The rocket can be launched from a mobile launcher. Other details of the project have not yet been disclosed.
