Moscow. December 23. INTERFAX - Italy could play a mediating role in the negotiations between Russia and NATO on security guarantees, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"Of course, bearing in mind both the friendly attitude and the level of our relations, Italy could play a role in the normalization of Russian-EU relations, and even through negotiations that are currently being planned between Russia and NATO," Putin said at a large press conference.
He noted that relations between Russia and Italy are at a high level, "regardless of those political forces that at one time or another find themselves at the top of political power."
