Russia does not approve of the appearance in Turkey of a park named after the former leader of Chechen separatists Dzhokhar Dudayev. Moscow brought this point of view to Ankara through diplomatic channels.
This was reported to journalists by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
According to him, the reaction of the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, who criticized the Turkish authorities, is emotional, but understandable.
"This is a very, very emotional, but understandable reaction of the head of the Russian region, who has experienced several wars — several wars that were provoked, started by terrorists who tried to take control of this region of Russia," Peskov said, recalling that Dudaev was one of such terrorists.
The day before, Kadyrov, commenting on the assignment of the Dudayev park, called on Turkish President Recep Erdogan to either build transparent relations with Russia or admit to "harboring terrorists."
In mid-December, Dudayev's name was assigned to a park in the city of Korfez in northwestern Turkey. Dudaev led the armed resistance after the entry of Russian federal troops into Chechnya in 1994. The terrorist was killed on April 21, 1996, Izvestia reminds.
