Yerevan. December 21. INTERFAX - The Collective Security Treaty Organization considers the decision of Armenia and Azerbaijan to begin demarcation of the border an important step to prevent escalation, CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas said.
"The structure supports the steps of the Armenian government to resolve the situation with Azerbaijan through political and diplomatic means," he said in an interview with the Armenian state news agency "Armenpress" on Tuesday.
Zas noted that the CSTO is concerned about the tense situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
"We believe that border differences should be resolved only by political and diplomatic means, and we support the agreements contained in the Trilateral Statement of November 26 to take steps to increase the level of stability and security on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border and to work towards the creation of a Commission on the delimitation of the state border between Azerbaijan and Armenia with its subsequent demarcation with the assistance of the Russian Federation at the request of the parties," he said.
According to him, measures to de-escalate the situation are more in demand than ever and are of paramount importance.
