MOSCOW, Dec 21 - RIA Novosti. The unique multi-caliber rifle DXL-5 "Devastator" (export name - Havoc), which is capable of firing both NATO 12.7 x 99 mm and Russian 12.7 x 108 caliber cartridges, is being tested in Russia, Vladislav Lobaev, CEO of the Lobaev Arms development company, told RIA Novosti.
The developer emphasized that the DXL-5 has a unique accuracy of 0.5 arc minutes for the 12.7 caliber - thus, this rifle shoots four times more accurately than its American competitor Barret (2 arc minutes). Lobaev noted that such a high accuracy for a large-caliber rifle and a targeted firing range (about 2300 meters against 1800 at the Barret) will allow the "Devastator" to perform one of the most difficult tasks – the fight against enemy sniper units.
Among other technological know-how introduced on the DXL-5, the agency interlocutor attributed a damping device on the butt, which significantly reduces the effect of the recoil of the rifle, which weighs 13 kilograms.
The "Devastator" is not just a sniper rifle, but also a "laboratory" for testing new calibers. Especially for her, we have developed four new calibers, which we plan to test in the near future. If everything goes well, then we will be able to reach simply unique firing range indicators for weapons of this class," Lobayev said.
Currently, another Lobaev Arms development, the Twilight, is recognized as the longest-range rifle in the world. With the help of this weapon, Russian Andrey Ryabinsky set a world record by hitting a target at a distance of 4210 meters.
