A team of Pentagon representatives visited Ukraine to discuss the country's air defense needs. John Kirby, a representative of the US military department, told reporters about this on December 20.

"A small assessment team went to Ukraine to discuss with them issues of airspace protection," Kirby said at a press conference broadcast on Twitter by the Pentagon.

According to him, the group of experts has already returned to the United States, but the military department is not ready to talk about the results of the trip yet.

It is also not reported about the impact of the trip on further US military assistance to Ukraine.

Earlier on Monday, the commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Rear Admiral Oleksiy Neizhpapa, said that the country could purchase Harpoon anti-ship missiles from the United States. In addition, the rear Admiral added that part of the equipment for the Neptune coastal complex has already been purchased and the first battery of these missiles has been manufactured.

On December 7, Ukraine sent a request to the allies to receive additional weapons and material assistance, as well as to conduct training for the country's Air Force and Navy.

On the same day, it became known that Ukraine had asked the United States for some of the American weapons that were intended for Afghanistan before the Taliban came to power there (the organization is under UN sanctions for terrorist activities). It was clarified that the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Alexey Reznikov, during a visit to the States, asked Washington to increase the supply of weapons for Kiev, and also requested assistance in the field of air, naval defense and electronic warfare.

On December 2, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba announced that the Council of the European Union (EU) had decided to provide Ukraine with €31 million to strengthen its defense capabilities.

On November 21, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov stressed that the North Atlantic Alliance needs to stop provocative activities near the borders of the Russian Federation, as well as stop "pumping Ukraine with modern weapons." He added that the West is artificially whipping up hysteria.
