Having led his party to victory in the Bundestag elections, Social Democrat Olaf Scholz became the new Chancellor of Germany.
For starters, Scholz became the second chancellor in the history of Germany who did not mention God at the oath. After taking the oath, he began his first foreign voyage along the "traditional"inaugural" route" Paris - Brussels - Warsaw.
Olaf Scholz has always actively advocated direct dialogue with Russia. The politician supports the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. He even offered the United States to finance purchases of American liquefied natural gas in exchange for waiving sanctions against Moscow.
Scholz is convinced that the European Union should follow the example of US President Joe Biden, who held talks with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Geneva in June.
The politician calls for a similar meeting with the Russian president to find ways to resolve mutual differences.
"If we want to ensure common security in Europe, then the European Union and Russia should deal with this," Scholz said.
The media also note that Scholz does not support the idea of Ukraine joining NATO and the EU, and Olaf Scholz is categorically against the supply of weapons to Ukraine.
