MOSCOW, December 17/ Sputnik Radio. The EU, in response to Russia's proposals on regional security guarantees, supports discussing this issue in existing formats, the official representative of the EU Foreign Policy Service Peter Stano told RIA Novosti.
On Friday afternoon, Russia handed over to the United States and other NATO countries drafts of a security guarantee treaty.
Among other things, Moscow offered Washington and its allies to guarantee the non-expansion of the alliance into the territory of Ukraine, as well as to agree to the mutual non-deployment of missiles in the areas of destruction of each other's territory.
In turn, the defense ministers of the Nordic and Baltic countries have already stated that the West will not agree with Moscow's proposals under any circumstances.
This became known after the discussion of the Russian initiative by the heads of the military departments of Finland, Estonia, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Latvia, Lithuania and Iceland.
Earlier, Sputnik radio reported how Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev explained the importance of security guarantees in relations between Russia and NATO countries.
