Russia is developing new missile defense systems, including for a missile system with hypersonic warheads.
This was reported to the newspaper "Krasnaya Zvezda" by the commander of the Strategic Missile Forces, Colonel-General Sergei Karakaev. He noted that the Avangard complex with a hypersonic gliding cruise combat unit is unattainable for existing and prospective missile defense systems. These combat units have a speed of over 20 Mach, maneuverability, which provides a flight path bypassing the air defense zones and does not allow predicting the final goal of the block. The probability of overcoming all existing and promising missile defense systems is almost one hundred percent.
Nevertheless, the general added that the development of missile defense systems is proceeding at a fairly high pace. Specialists are conducting research, looking for technologies to develop anti-missiles to defeat hypersonic blocks. The United States is doing this and will continue to do it. Therefore, the commander of the Strategic Missile Forces concludes, in order to preserve Russia's advantage, research organizations and enterprises of the military-industrial complex are developing new systems to overcome missile defense, including for a missile complex with hypersonic warheads.
