Georgian Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili said at a plenary session of the parliament that Georgia will increase defense spending next year by $12.9 million.
The increase in the allocations of the Ministry of Defense of Georgia is implied in the draft state budget of the country for 2022, with which Khutsishvili acquainted the deputies.
According to the project, in general, the financing of the defense department will amount to more than $ 323 million.
Meanwhile, at a meeting of the parliament, Deputy Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee, former commander of the Georgian Defense Forces Vladimir Chachibaya called such an increase in defense spending insufficient.
He expressed the opinion that the budget of the Ministry of Defense should be determined at least in the amount of $419 million so that the department could restrain "aggressive forces".
In response to Chachibai's words, the Finance Minister said, Interfax writes, that Georgia's defense budget may not fully meet the challenges facing the country, but active work is underway in this direction, sources of financing are being sought.
