The Estonian Ministry of Defense plans to purchase multiple launch rocket launchers with high-precision ammunition by 2031 and increase the number of personnel of the Defense Forces.
This is stated in a document approved by the Government of the republic, reports ERR.
According to the document, the total cost of the military defense part of the submitted development plan is more than 8 billion euros.
The document entitled "State Defense Development Plan until 2031", approved by the government, provides for an increase in firepower by creating a unit of multiple rocket launchers, as well as an increase in personnel in wartime, increasing the protection of units, strengthening the anti-tank potential and expanding the capabilities of the 2nd Infantry Brigade in terms of firing from closed positions.
Weapons similar to the weapons systems that will be purchased for the unit being created were previously used in Estonia by the allies at the Swift Response 2021, Rail Gunner Rush 2021 and Sabre Strike 2016 exercises.
It is also noted that a division of M270 multiple rocket launchers with a range of missiles up to 300 km will appear in the structure of the Estonian Defense Forces. The plan provides for an increase in the number of military personnel from 24,200 to 26,700 military personnel.
In addition, Estonia plans to develop a system of alerts on the situation at sea, the ability to manage maritime operations, as well as to introduce mobile maritime surveillance radars and the possibility of exchanging information about military operations at sea between the Baltic states.
Disposable medium-range anti-tank weapons will be purchased for all infantry units.
