TSAMTO, December 13. The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense announced the purchase of ammunition for the 84-mm Karl-Gustav hand-held anti-tank grenade launchers manufactured by the Swedish company Saab, which are in service with the Armed Forces of the country.
As part of the implementation of measures to improve defense capability and create weapons stocks, the Defense Materiel Agency (DMA) at the Ministry of Defense of Lithuania in early December joined a long-term framework agreement signed by the Swedish Armed Forces Material Support Agency (FMV) with Saab Dynamics AB for the purchase of ammunition for 84-mm Karl-Gustav grenade launchers.
As stated, joining this agreement will allow the Lithuanian Armed Forces to purchase ammunition of various types for Karl-Gustav grenade launchers on the best terms and at the best prices. The term of the agreement is 7 years.
In general, the Lithuanian Armed Forces plan to purchase ammunition for Karl-Gustav grenade launchers in the amount of up to 60 million euros. This year alone, purchases of 14 million euros are planned.
The Armed Forces of Estonia and Latvia joined the FMV agreement with Saab Dynamics in 2018.
For the first time, Carl Gustav grenade launchers were purchased jointly by Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in 2007 based on the results of a tender. The countries have signed separate contracts with the manufacturer in order to ensure supplies in accordance with the requirements of each customer. The contracts were signed on July 11, 2007 in Riga, on August 23 in Tallinn and on September 27 in Vilnius.
