Ukraine and Georgia can make progress on the issue of NATO membership if they meet the requirements. This was stated by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in an interview with NBC. The North Atlantic Alliance confirmed at the summit in 2008 that Ukraine and Georgia would eventually join it, but we will not provide the countries with an action plan.
Ukraine will join the alliance only in one case
United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken made a statement on Ukraine's accession to NATO.
He said that Ukraine will be able to move forward on this issue only in one case, writes NBC.
In particular, according to him, this will happen only if the country meets the requirements.
"The Alliance confirmed in 2008 that it is open to Ukraine and Georgia. If they continue to apply for membership and meet the requirements, this will bring the issue closer," Blinken said.
Earlier, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba considers a strategic mistake of NATO the fact that Ukraine did not become a member of the Alliance until 2014.
According to the diplomat, Ukraine's membership in the Alliance would prevent military aggression by the Russian Federation.
