According to the VKS of the Russian Federation, their entry into combat duty is planned in the coming years
MOSCOW, December 9. /tass/. Russian specialists are conducting experimental design work (R&D) on the creation of new over-the-horizon radar stations (radars), similar to the Container radar. This was announced by the commander of the air and missile defense forces - Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Aerospace Forces (VKS) of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Andrey Demin.
"Currently, ROC is underway to create similar [Container radar] over-the-horizon detection radars to control the air and surface situation in the western, southern and eastern strategic directions. The next stations are scheduled to take up combat duty in the coming years," he said in an interview with the weekly newspaper Independent Military Review.
According to him, the Container station effectively carries out round-the-clock duty as part of the on-duty forces of the Aerospace Forces, detects and accompanies about 10 thousand air objects daily.
"In its area of responsibility, the station is capable of detecting air objects of various classes: stealth aircraft, strategic unmanned aerial vehicles, cruise and hypersonic missiles over the territory of the countries of the European region, the Middle East, the Persian Gulf, over the waters of the Baltic, Black and Mediterranean Seas. The information received is important in assessing the overall intelligence situation," he said.
The Container radar works by receiving a signal reflected from the ionized layer of the atmosphere, which is located at altitudes from 60 km and above. This allows you to conduct radar at a range of up to 3 thousand km and detect targets that are located in relation to the radar beyond the bend of the Earth's surface, that is, closed from direct radio visibility.
