Deputy commander of the district troops Rustam Muradov said that the Russian peacekeepers will bring this matter to an end
ROSTOV-ON-DON, December 9. /tass/. All servicemen of the Azerbaijani side captured during the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh have been returned with the assistance of Russian peacekeepers, work on the return of captured Armenian soldiers is currently continuing. This was reported to TASS by the deputy commander of the troops of the Southern Military District, Rustam Muradov.
"To date, all Azerbaijani servicemen have been returned, and the work on the return of Armenian prisoners of war continues, there is a good positive, there is understanding. I think that this issue should be completely closed. And the Russian peacekeepers will bring this matter to an end," Muradov said.
He noted that he regards the work on the return of prisoners as a civilian duty of a peacemaker.
"As a military man, I understand who prisoners of war are, what feelings they experienced while in captivity. I remember the first flight, when we left for Baku, and on my return I saw the faces of those servicemen when they had already flown to Yerevan to the Erebuni airfield. They were tears, they did not believe that they had returned home," the deputy head of the committee said.
The situation in the conflict zone around Nagorno-Karabakh escalated on September 27, 2020, when active hostilities began there. On November 9, 2020, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint statement on the complete cessation of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh. According to the agreements, the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides stop at the occupied positions, and Russian peacekeepers are stationed in the region.
