US President Joe Biden advocates a long-term American military presence in Europe. This was stated on Wednesday, December 8, assistant to the head of the White House for National Security Jake Sullivan.
"He [Biden] believes that there are arguments in favor of the long-term presence of American troops in Europe, which has helped prevent an attack on any NATO country in Europe since the founding of the North Atlantic Alliance," Sullivan said on the online forum of the Defense One publication.
At the same time, he stressed that Biden called the motivation to use American troops abroad a "clearly formulated goal" that would be related to the vital interests of the United States in the field of national security.
Also, U.S. military support for any side should be part of a "larger strategy that does not fully or not too much depend" on the Pentagon, Sullivan added.
Earlier on Wednesday, Biden stressed that the United States and NATO intend to explore the possibility of providing security guarantees to Russia.
On the same day, a protest note was handed to the US Embassy in Moscow with a warning about the dangerous consequences of the military activity of the States and NATO members. The view lists recent incidents related to alliance activity.
Also on Wednesday, Russian leader Vladimir Putin said that the NATO bloc is clearly pursuing a confrontational line against Russia. According to him, the alliance is unfriendly and declares the Russian Federation its opponent.
At the same time, on December 7, Biden, in response to Russia's concern about NATO's advance to the east, promised Putin to discuss this topic with his alliance colleagues.
