Moscow. December 8th. INTERFAX - Moscow expects that its concerns about the possible admission of Ukraine to NATO after talks with U.S. President Joseph Biden will be heard, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"We cannot but worry about the prospect of Ukraine's possible admission to NATO, because this will certainly be followed by the deployment of appropriate military contingents, bases and weapons threatening us there. I have already said this in general terms, answering the previous question (about negotiations with US President Joseph Biden - IF). In my opinion, in response to yours, I will concretize these theses," Putin said at a press conference following talks with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Wednesday.
"To this extent, it seems to me, it will be enough to answer today: we proceed from the fact that our concerns will be heard at least this time, although until now during the previous decades we have constantly talked about our concerns and asked not to do it, but, nevertheless, the NATO infrastructure was inevitably approaching our borders," Putin continued.
According to him, missile defense systems are currently located in Poland and Romania.
"And we have every reason to believe that the same thing will happen if Ukraine is accepted into NATO," he said.
