The military infrastructure on the territory of Tajikistan will be improved, and the military of the CSTO countries will improve their collective combat potential. This was stated today at a meeting of the CSTO Military Committee by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov.
"A thorough exchange of views took place on the state of the military-political situation in the regions of collective security. The general staffs of the armed forces of the CSTO countries have confirmed a common understanding of the nature of challenges and threats to military security. We agreed to coordinate joint actions to neutralize them and improve the military potential of the CSTO... The priority areas of the CSTO's activities in the military sphere for the period of the presidency of the Republic of Armenia in the Organization next year were considered. Instructions have been given for their implementation," Valery Gerasimov said.
Despite the fact that the meeting was held via videoconference and the military could not communicate with each other in person, the significance of the event is enormous. Members of the Military Committee for the Development of Cooperation of the CSTO member states discussed challenges and threats to military security in the Eastern European, Caucasian and Central Asian regions. The priorities of coalition military construction were also determined.
In addition, according to the chief of the Russian General Staff, the procedure has been defined "to attract the peacekeeping potential of the CSTO to the peacekeeping activities of the United Nations, including the training of military observers and staff officers to participate in peacekeeping operations."
"We have determined the directions of further work on improving military infrastructure facilities on the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan in the interests of deploying coalition groups of collective forces of the CSTO," Gerasimov said, summing up the event.
The meeting was attended by the Chiefs of the General Staffs of the Armed Forces of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, the Chief of the Joint Staff of the CSTO Anatoly Sidorov and the Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO Tahir Khairuloyev.
