"We will not give this niche to the Americans, we are ready to fight for it," he said after the launch of the Soyuz MS-20 manned spacecraft with two space tourists.
Soyuz MS-20 was launched on Wednesday from the 31st site of Baikonur. TASS correspondent cosmonaut Alexander Misurkin, Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa and his business assistant Yozo Hirano went into orbit on it. The duration of the flight will be 12 days. Misurkin, Maezawa and Hirano will return to Earth on the morning of December 20.
