INTERFAX - The military infrastructure on the territory of Tajikistan will be improved in the interests of the coalition groups of collective forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, Chairman of the CSTO Military Committee, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov said.
"We have determined the directions of further work to improve military infrastructure facilities on the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan in the interests of deploying coalition groups of the collective forces of the CSTO," Gerasimov said, summing up the results of the CSTO VC meeting held on Wednesday.
According to the Chief of the General Staff, "the set goals of the meeting of the Military Committee have been achieved, and the results will contribute to strengthening the collective security system and maintaining regional stability.
In Tajikistan, in particular, the 201st Russian military base is stationed - the largest military facility of the Russian Federation outside its borders, is part of the Central Military District. It is located in two cities - Dushanbe and Bokhtar. The base includes motorized rifle, tank, artillery, reconnaissance units, air defense units, radiation, chemical, bacteriological protection and communications.
At the end of 2019, the Russian military strengthened the air defense of the 201st base with long-range air defense systems. The division of S-300PS anti-aircraft missile systems (Almaz-Antey Concern of East Kazakhstan Region) has taken up combat duty. Their main tasks are to cover the objects of the Russian base from the means of aerospace attack, as well as air defense of the Central Asian region of collective security.
Against the background of the Taliban movement coming to power in Afghanistan (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation), the Russian military reported on strengthening the base in Tajikistan with new weapons.
