Specialists from the Naval Engineering Institute in Wuhan have created an electromagnetic cannon the size of a pistol. They told the South China Morning Post about this.
The weapon has a barrel with a diameter of 12 centimeters with three coils generating an electromagnetic field. It, in turn, accelerates the projectile. The kinetic energy of the shot reaches almost 150 joules, which, according to scientists, is twice the lethal threshold. For reference: the energy of the 9x19 mm Parabellum pistol cartridge is 520 joules, the 7.62 mm automatic cartridge is 2100.
The electromagnetic gun is powered by a built-in battery and is comparable in size to a pistol. Neural networks and artificial intelligence were used in its creation. The publication notes that the same technologies are used in China to create more impressive prototypes of electromagnetic weapons - for example, ship guns.
