Kiev. December 7. INTERFAX-UKRAINE - Washington is not currently considering the evacuation of US civil servants or American citizens from Ukraine, the US Embassy in Kiev says.
"The US government is not currently considering the evacuation of US government personnel or American citizens from Ukraine. We are carrying out the usual contingency planning, as we always do, in case of a serious deterioration of the security situation," the message on the embassy's Twitter page said on Tuesday.
Earlier, CNN, citing several sources, reported that the administration of US President Joe Biden is studying options for the evacuation of American citizens from Ukraine if Russia invades Ukrainian territory.
"According to sources, the Pentagon is currently planning a number of different scenarios if evacuation is necessary: from a small evacuation of non-performing vital functions of US government employees to a larger evacuation involving a larger number of American citizens," a statement on the CNN website says.
At the same time, the channel reports that currently the US administration does not see the need for evacuation: air transportation is still carried out through the international airports of Ukraine, the land borders with Ukraine's western neighbors are open.
CNN noted that these "discussions are part of planning in case of a serious deterioration of the security situation."
"The discussions reflect how seriously the administration is taking the invasion scenario," CNN reports.
