NEW DELHI, December 7. /tass/. Russia is ready to ensure full-scale production of 7.62 mm AK-203 submachine guns in India in two to three years. This was announced to journalists on Tuesday by the General Director of Rosoboronexport JSC (part of Rostec State Corporation) Alexander Mikheev.
"The Russian side confirms its readiness to ensure the full-scale production of the latest version of Kalashnikov assault rifles within two to three years, which will provide India's law enforcement agencies with modern small arms," he said.
According to him, the first part of the AK-203 submachine guns will be produced in India with varying degrees of localization, and then full-scale production will begin. "There is a feature of launching production. The first 120 thousand AK-203 submachine guns will be produced in India with a phased increase in localization from 5% to 70%. The rest of the machines will be produced with 100% localization," the head of Rosoboronexport said.
On December 6, the Russian-Indian joint venture Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited and the Ministry of Defense of India signed a contract for the production in India and the supply of more than 600 thousand Kalashnikov assault rifles to the country's security ministries. India can thus become the first foreign country to produce the "two hundredth" series of Kalashnikov assault rifles.
The AK-203 submachine gun in the configuration for the Indian Armed Forces was first presented at the international arms exhibition DefExpo India 2020.
