MOSCOW, December 7. /tass/. The new head of the Military Academy of Strategic Missile Forces named after Peter the Great, Lieutenant General Igor Afonin, will be presented on December 7 on the Day of the Military Academy. This was reported to TASS by a source close to the military department.
"On Tuesday, during the solemn formation of the personnel of the Military Academy of the Strategic Missile Forces, it is expected that a ceremony will be held to introduce the new head of the educational institution, Lieutenant General Igor Afonin," he said.
TASS has no official confirmation of this information.
Prior to this appointment, Afonin held the position of commander of the Omsk Rocket Army.
Since 2019, the academy has been commanded by Major General Leonid Mikholap, who was dismissed from military service.
