INTERFAX - The American side is actively in contact with allies about the presence of Russian troops near Ukraine, but each country will eventually decide for itself how to react in the event of a conflict between Moscow and Kiev, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said on Monday.

"We are consulting with our allies and partners, especially with NATO allies," he said at a briefing.

"We are talking about sovereign countries. As a result, they will have to decide for themselves to what extent to react (in the event of a conflict between Russia and Ukraine - IF)," Kirby added.
