Washington. December 4th. INTERFAX - Moscow, not Kiev, should take steps to reduce tensions near the Russian-Ukrainian border, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said.
"We think this is a task for them (the Russian authorities - IF)," she said at a briefing, answering a question about which side should work on de-escalation. Psaki noted that the United States is not the only country holding such an opinion.
Speaking about what Washington believes the Russian Federation should do, Psaki mentioned "the need to abandon bellicose rhetoric, to reconsider the decision on the concentration of troops."
She stressed that the task of the United States is "to be ready for action in case of aggressive actions of the Russian Federation against Ukraine." According to her, the United States "has a number of options for this, such as economic sanctions." Psaki did not talk about what other "options" were.
