WASHINGTON, December 3. /tass/. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) The United States has signed agreements with three American companies totaling $415.6 million dollars for the development of space station projects in low Earth orbit. This was reported on Thursday by the press service of the department.
"NASA has signed agreements with three American companies on the development of space station projects and other commercial areas in space. These agreements are part of the agency's efforts to ensure a strong commercial economy in low Earth orbit, led by Americans," the document says.
Thus, NASA has signed contracts with Blue Origin for $130 million, Nanorack for $160 million and Northrop Grumman for $125.6 million. "NASA seeks to maintain a continuous US presence in low Earth orbit by moving from the International Space Station to other platforms. These government orders will stimulate the development by the US private sector of commercial, independent space stations that will be available to both government and private customers," NASA added.
"Building on our successful initiatives to partner with the private sector to deliver cargo and now our astronauts to the International Space Station, NASA is once again playing a leading role in the commercialization of space activities," said the head of the department, Bill Nelson.
