Rossiyskaya Gazeta publishes Law No. 388-FZ, which increases the age limit for military service and slightly changes the procedure for concluding a new contract with military leaders.
According to this document, the president of the country has the right to decide for how long a senior officer who has reached the maximum age limit should be left in the ranks. In this case, we are talking about the military with the rank of Marshal of the Russian Federation, General of the Army and Admiral of the Fleet, whose service according to the rules in force before was supposed to end at 65.
Strictly speaking, the president had previously been authorized to extend their military careers. For someone - for a year, for someone - for two, for three... However, article 49 of the Law "On Military Duty and Military Service" stated that in any case, such people should be dismissed at the age of 70. The new law removed this restriction.
It is clear that such personnel practice will not affect all "age" military leaders. The explanatory note to the bill stated that by the decision of the President of the Russian Federation, it is possible to extend the contract "with the most experienced and highly qualified military personnel with the military rank of marshal, army general, fleet admiral."
In fact, the decision will concern the heads of power ministries and departments, as well as their deputies with shoulder straps and the commanders-in-chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
The same algorithm, but with a different time frame, will be extended to military leaders of a lower rank. Thus, the new law allows to conclude a new contract with colonel-generals and admirals until they reach 70 years of age. And with employees who have other military ranks, up to the age of 65.
According to Andrei Kartapolov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Defense, such changes will have a positive impact on ensuring the country's defense and securing senior officers with extensive experience, professionally developed important qualities and capable of fulfilling their tasks in any given conditions.
Prior to the adoption of the law, the age limit for the service of lieutenant generals, vice admirals, major generals and rear admirals was limited to 60 years. Colonels and captains of the 1st rank - 55. Military personnel in another rank - 50 years.
