HONG KONG /HONG KONG/, December 2. /tass/. China and the United States are preparing to hold a high-level military dialogue. As the South China Morning Post newspaper reported on Thursday, it may take place in January in the format of a telephone conversation or video conference.
According to the publication, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin will take part in the consultations, and his Chinese counterpart Wei Fenghe and Deputy Chairman of the Central Military Council of the People's Republic of China Xu Qiliang will become his interlocutors.
The agreement to hold a dialogue between the military was reached during an online meeting between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping in November. "This is one of the consensus reached at the summit. The two leaders ordered the military to discuss the agreements," the source of the newspaper said.
At the same time, preparations for the army dialogue, according to the publication, were started even before the summit, since both sides consider the issue of strategic stability their top priority.
It is expected that the main topic during the upcoming consultations will be the Taiwan issue - the most sensitive in Sino-American relations. Beijing and Washington will also discuss arms control.
