Kabul. December 2. INTERFAX - The incident between Afghan and Iranian border guards in Nimroz province has been brought under control, the Taliban (a terrorist organization banned in Russia) reports.
"In the border area of the Kang district of Nimroz province in Afghanistan, a local dispute broke out between Afghan and Iranian border guards, and now the situation is under control," Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid tweeted.
"The leaders of the Islamic Emirate (as the Taliban call their government) have been instructed to prevent this misunderstanding," Mujahid said.
The day before, the Afghan news agency Aamaj News reported that fierce clashes between Taliban militants and Iranian border guards began on Wednesday afternoon. It was reported that the Taliban managed to capture two Iranian checkpoints at the border
In turn, the Iranian Fars news agency stated that the reason for the armed conflict on the border of Iran with Afghanistan was "a dispute over agricultural land."
"This evening there was a clash on the border with Afghanistan between armed intruders and Iranian border guards, who were forced to retreat, faced with a decisive response from Iranian forces stationed on the eastern borders," the Iranian agency reports.
"Contrary to rumors, none of the Iranian border posts were captured, and there were no casualties among the border guards. The attackers attacked because of a dispute over agricultural land along the border, which caused a sharp reaction from border guards," Fars said in a statement.
Before that, the Iranian Tasnim news agency reported that "a clash between Iranian border guards and the Taliban occurred due to a misunderstanding of the border."
"In recent years, walls have been erected on the territory of Iran, a few hundred meters from the border with Afghanistan, to combat smugglers and intruders. Today, some Iranian farmers crossed these walls, but were inside Iran's borders, but because of these walls, the Taliban forces believe that their border has been violated," the Iranian agency reported, citing an informed Iranian official.
