MOSCOW, December 1. /tass/. Russian Defense Minister Army General Sergei Shoigu and his Vietnamese counterpart Army General Fan Van Zang signed an intergovernmental agreement on military-technical cooperation (MTC) between the two countries on Wednesday, the Russian Defense Ministry told reporters.

"On December 1, a bilateral meeting was held between the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Army General Sergei Shoigu, and the Minister of National Defense of Vietnam, Army General Fan Van Zang. After the meeting, the ministers signed a bilateral intergovernmental agreement on the development of military-technical cooperation and an interdepartmental memorandum on cooperation in the field of military history," the ministry said.

As Shoigu noted at the meeting, Russia and Vietnam "have accumulated a unique experience of working together, which is based on long-term friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation." "We always pay priority attention to cooperation in the military and military-technical spheres. Vietnam is one of the key states in the Asia-Pacific region with modern and well-equipped armed forces," the Russian minister said.

Shoigu recalled that this year Vietnam became the first country in Southeast Asia to host the competitions of the "Army International Games - 2021". "The competitions were held at a high level, with the great support of the military-political leadership of your country," he added.

The defense ministers discussed the prospects for military and military-technical cooperation between Russia and Vietnam and outlined a plan for joint work for the future. According to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the meeting "confirmed the mutual intention to consistently increase multifaceted cooperation between the military departments of the two countries."
