INTERFAX - Representatives of the Afghan Taliban movement (banned in Russia as a terrorist movement) at a meeting in Qatar with a delegation of American officials confirmed that the territory of Afghanistan will not be used for attacks or threats to third countries, the US State Department said.
"The Taliban have confirmed their promise not to allow anyone to use the territory of Afghanistan to threaten any country," a statement issued after the meeting said.
It notes that the US delegation noted recent statements by the leaders of the Taliban movement, which expressed support for women and girls' access to education at all levels, and "urged the fulfillment of this commitment."
The Taliban appealed for support in the field of education and expressed readiness to cooperate with the international community in ensuring full access to education, "welcomed efforts to verify and monitor progress in enrolling women and girls in schools at all levels," the State Department informed.
He also said that the United States "expressed concern about the continued presence of Al-Qaeda and ISIS (terrorist structures banned in the Russian Federation) in Afghanistan," allegations of human rights violations. They called on the Taliban to "protect the rights of all Afghans, support and implement a policy of general amnesty and take additional steps to form an inclusive and representative government."
The sides also discussed the measures of the international community to respond to the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, the US delegation promised to continue to support the efforts of the UN and humanitarian organizations to expand the scope of these activities to meet the needs of saving people's lives in the coming winter.
The U.S. delegation was headed by Thomas West, Special Representative for Afghanistan, and included representatives of the State Department, the Treasury Department, the U.S. Agency for International Development and the intelligence community.
