Tallinn. November 30th. INTERFAX - What is happening along the eastern borders of the North Atlantic Alliance is under the close attention of the allies, Estonian Foreign Minister Eva-Maria Liimets said, summing up the results of the first day of the meeting of NATO Foreign ministers in Riga.
"All allies stressed that both a hybrid attack by Belarus and Russia's opaque actions in Ukraine and the Ukrainian border are unacceptable. The ministers stressed that the alliance is united, promptly assesses the situation for European security and is ready to protect all its allies," the press service of the Estonian Foreign Ministry quoted Liimets as saying.
Liimets added that "the allies clearly see the concentration of Russian troops near the border with Ukraine as a threat to both Ukrainian and European security in general."
"The Allies have called on Russia to put an immediate end to these activities," she said, thanking NATO members for their contribution to the security of the Baltic region.
Liimets noted that the alliance's foreign ministers expressed regret over the closure of Russia's diplomatic channels with the bloc, "although a constructive dialogue with Russia is required right now. NATO remains open to dialogue."
The Minister added that another important topic was the actions of the Belarusian authorities on the borders of Latvia, Lithuania and Poland. "The cruel manipulation of human lives, attempts to divide and discredit NATO and the European Union - this requires a unified response, and NATO strongly supports its allies who are under the greatest pressure," she stressed.
