Moscow. November 30th. INTERFAX - The United States and the United Kingdom tried to shift responsibility to the European Union for maintaining the viability of Ukraine's economy, including in the face of rising energy prices and the obsolescence of its energy infrastructure, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) said.

"According to the data received, the Western diplomatic corps in Ukraine notes the increased activity of the United States in order to enlist the support of European allies in deterring Russia. Moreover, the tone of such a dialogue is becoming more and more rigid," the SVR said in a comment distributed on Tuesday.

The special service recalled that in mid-November of this year, a meeting of representatives of EU diplomatic missions in Ukraine was held in Kiev, which was attended by high-ranking diplomats of the United States and Great Britain.

"The emissaries of Washington and London tried to sow panic by continuing to manipulate false information about the approaching full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine and the subsequent Russian occupation of Ukrainian territory. They persistently demanded that the EU countries show a solidary approach. In the interpretation of the American and the British, this is the only way to save the Russophobic Kiev regime," the commentary notes.

"At the meeting in Kiev, an urgent appeal was made to the EU states to assist the Ukrainian side in providing energy from alternative sources. Washington and London tried to impose costly responsibilities on the European Union to preserve the viability of Ukraine's economy in the face of unprecedented corruption in this country, the dilapidation of its energy infrastructure and rising energy prices," the SVR stressed.

It was claimed that it was the EU countries "who are responsible for ensuring that Ukraine does not lose its economic stability completely in the upcoming harsh winter," the commentary notes.

"The diplomatic corps of the EU countries is confused. They realize here that the Americans and the British are artificially inflating hysteria in order to present Russia as the culprit of all the troubles if the Kiev adventurers attack the Donbass. Diplomats see that the Ukrainian government itself provokes tension in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions," the SVR said.
