The US Department of Defense expects to strengthen Russia's deterrence capabilities in Europe. This was announced on Monday, November 29, during a briefing by Acting Assistant to the Deputy head of the Pentagon for Political Affairs Mara Karlin.
She noted that the military department has completed a review of the balance of forces in the world, which US President Joe Biden instructed Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to coordinate the alignment of American forces abroad.
"As for these changes, as part of the review of the alignment of our forces in the world, we found that we were right to make some really important investments, deepening our cooperation and interaction with partners in the defense sector throughout Europe. So these projects make sense, and we want to continue them," the acting Assistant to the Deputy Minister of Defense stressed.
Karlin also recalled that Washington will additionally increase its military contingent in Germany by 500 troops.
Earlier, on November 26, Sergei Tsekov, a member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs from the Republic of Crimea, commenting on an article by The Times about Britain's plans to transfer hundreds of military equipment to Germany in order to "be ready in case of war with Russia," said that the Russian Federation has no grounds for war with Europe. At the same time, he doubted that Germany was ready to host British equipment. The senator noted that not all countries are "struck by hatred for Russia", but they have become "hostages" of the policy pursued by the European Union and NATO countries.
On November 23, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, commenting on rumors about the Kremlin's military plans against neighboring states, said that the Russian Federation is not going to attack Ukraine and does not have aggressive plans. He noted that Ukraine is planning aggressive actions against Donbass - the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR).
