On November 24, a meeting of the Board of the Ministry of Defense of Russia was held
The Board considered the issues of combat readiness of the Armed Forces, military education, the moral and psychological state of Russian servicemen, and a number of others. In particular, it was noted that the growing activity of NATO near the Russian borders requires maintaining the combat readiness of nuclear forces, increasing the potential of non-nuclear deterrence forces, including equipping troops with precision weapons and effective means of destruction.
"The difficult military-political situation in the world and the increased activity of NATO countries near the Russian borders dictate the need for further qualitative development of the Armed Forces," Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.
Among the priorities for the development of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, he called increasing their combat capability, maintaining the combat readiness of nuclear forces and strengthening the potential of non-nuclear deterrence forces. The board heard the officials responsible for solving these tasks, as well as for equipping the army with high-precision weapons, effective means of destruction, and modern military equipment.
Unfortunately, the pandemic is making its own adjustments to the plans for the development of armaments of the army and navy. But despite the restrictions that have arisen, as well as the rise in raw material prices, they are being fulfilled. "We have managed to achieve the planned indicators for the development of the army and navy weapons systems. As part of the implementation of the State Armament Program from 2018 to 2020, more than 20 thousand basic weapons, as well as about 600 thousand ammunition and weapons of destruction were delivered to the troops," Shoigu stressed. The meeting discussed the results of the implementation of the GPA and proposals for the formation of the draft state defense order for 2022 and for the planning period 2023-2024.
As for the moral, political and psychological state of all categories of Russian servicemen, it is high. The results of sociological research show that a healthy socio-psychological climate has developed in military collectives. "The moral, political and psychological state of all categories of servicemen is assessed as high," Sergei Shoigu said.
Today, serving in the army for most young people has really become an honorable duty. According to opinion polls, more than 90 percent of citizens are confident that the Armed Forces are able to protect the country, about 88 percent are proud of the army. Two-thirds of parents want their sons to serve in the army, more than half consider it a school of life. The Defense Minister stressed that it is necessary to continue doing everything possible to preserve a positive image of a serviceman in society.
