The company AM General, which developed the Humvee family of cars, is working on a new modification of the car. The manufacturer has signed a cooperation agreement with the British company QinetiQ. The developers will create a hybrid version of the car, according to Defense Blog.
As part of the new project, a concept "Humvee" with a hybrid power plant will be created. The developers plan to demonstrate the viability of military vehicles with electric drive.
The development team has created two interactive models of a promising machine. Using virtual reality technologies, the models demonstrate the integration of the QinetiQ electric drive into a Humvee. Defense Blog notes that the modernization of the car requires minimal intervention in the design.
The manufacturer claims that the hybrid drive will reduce the acoustic and thermal visibility of the Humvee. The use of electric motors will also reduce fuel consumption by 30 percent, which will make it possible to increase the power reserve of the car.
Earlier, the "Military Industrial Company" showed a new armored car "MIC-Ural" on video. The car received a YaMZ-536 diesel engine.
In August, the builders of the US Navy created plywood copies of Humvee cars. The layouts are designed for logistics exercises.
