The Russian National Center for Remote Sensing of the Earth (Remote Sensing) from Space should begin its work in 2025. This was stated on Thursday by Valery Zaichko, Deputy Director of the Department of Navigation Space Systems of Roscosmos, at the Interdepartmental Commission on the Use of the Results of Space Activities in the Interests of Socio-economic Development of the Russian Federation and the Regions.
He also noted that Russia has already created a full-fledged ground infrastructure in the field of remote sensing. 18 remote sensing data collection, storage and processing stations have been deployed throughout Russia and abroad.
The creation of the National Remote Sensing Center was announced in 2020, according to information on the state procurement website, the Roscosmos State Corporation in the same year ordered the development of an integral part of the development work on the creation of a National Center for Remote Sensing of the Earth from space for more than 1.379 billion rubles.
According to available data, the head site of the National Center for Remote Sensing of the Earth from Space will be located in Moscow, and the elements of the Center will be located in the city of Kalyazin (Tver region), on the basis of the center for deep space communications.
It is assumed that the National Remote Sensing Center will have nine information reception complexes in its composition to ensure the reception and processing of space information from the remote sensing satellites Meteor, Canopus, Resurs, Obzor and other promising devices, including non-state ones.
In addition, the Center will provide automated management of a single geographically distributed remote sensing system, as well as assessment and quality control of data received from satellites. As part of the Remote Sensing Center, it is planned to create hardware and software complexes for a situation center, a computing cluster, a thematic data processing center, a service center and a technology center. Thus, the National Remote Sensing Center will have the same elements as the National Defense Control Center (under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation) and the National Crisis Management Center (under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Emergency Situations).
