More than 2.5 thousand tons of food and basic necessities were delivered to Syria, Armenia, Afghanistan, Nicaragua and Cuba
MOSCOW, November 26. /tass/. The Russian Armed Forces have increased the volume of humanitarian aid delivery to Russian regions and foreign countries several times in 2021, said Mikhail Mizintsev, head of the National Defense Management Center of the Russian Federation.
"The volume of delivery of humanitarian aid to critical areas - Syria, Armenia, Afghanistan, Nicaragua and Cuba - has increased many times, where more than 2.5 thousand tons of food and basic necessities have been delivered," Mizintsev said at a conference on Friday.
He also noted that "the number of treated infrastructure facilities requiring disinfection has been dramatically increased by seven times."
"Direct assistance in eliminating the consequences of floods and ice jams on rivers was provided to local authorities of 13 subjects of Russia. The area of extinguished wildfires in 18 regions exceeded last year's figures by four times," Mizintsev said. "<...> At the request of Greece and Turkey, more than 380 sorties were carried out by aircraft of the armed forces in a difficult fire situation, more than 15.5 thousand tons of water were dropped on burning areas."
"A unique example of coordinated interdepartmental work was the emergency evacuation of more than 560 citizens of Russia and other countries from Afghanistan, which is gripped by a nationwide crisis. <...> The tasks of humanitarian demining in Laos and the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone are being successfully solved. More than 2 thousand hectares of territory have been cleared of explosive objects," Mizintsev said.
The result of the efforts of the interdepartmental coordination headquarters was the return to their homes of more than 2 million Syrian citizens, 215 of our children were taken to Russia from the zone of armed conflict, 67 of them this year alone, Mizintsev said. According to him, "250 thousand doses of the Sputnik Lite vaccine and one million tests for the diagnosis of coronavirus were donated to the Syrian government."
