The Agreement on the creation of a joint regional air defense system of Russia and Tajikistan submitted by the President of the Russian Federation is under ratification in the State Duma. This document was signed on April 27 in Dushanbe by the defense ministers of the two countries. And in mid-November, the Russian government approved it.
The agreement stipulates the mission of the new defense structure of the two states. It is said that their joint regional air defense system, being an integral part of the CIS Joint Air Defense System, is being formed "in order to increase the effectiveness of solving air defense tasks in the region." Moscow and Dushanbe agreed, on the one hand, to jointly cover their territory from air strikes. And on the other hand, to secure the CIS airspace in the southern strategic direction. This is especially important in connection with the events in Afghanistan.
The agreement is designed for 5 years and provides for an automatic extension for the same period. Coordination of joint actions of the air defense system will be handled by the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces. The main burden of joint combat duty will fall on our units and crews, including calculations of the S-300PS anti-aircraft missile systems of the 201st military base of the Russian Federation in Tajikistan. Our country has already created regional air defense systems with a number of CIS countries. In particular, with Belarus and Kazakhstan. This helps the generals plan the joint use of forces and means, organize their interaction, operational and combat training, combat duty. The same algorithm is used in the new air defense system of Russia and Tajikistan.
